Incident Involving Fire Truck Kills Long Island Man – Raising Many Questions

Firetruck_

New Yorkers have been relying on firefighters for hundreds of years, and the sound of an approaching siren is often a much-welcome one. That being said, there is something undeniably hazardous about a fire truck speeding down the crowded streets of Long Island. Almost inevitably, these fire trucks become involved in numerous car crashes each year. A recent incident in Long Island has claimed the life of a driver – and his family is trying to determine what exactly happened. If you were injured by a fire truck in Manhasset, you might consider speaking with an experienced injury attorney.

Fire Truck Slams into Sedan, Sending it Flying Across the Entire Block

In March of 2025, a fire truck was traveling to the site of a house fire when it hit a sedan in an intersection on Route 112. The crash occurred in Suffolk County, and it claimed the life of the sedan’s single occupant. Police say that the collision occurred with such force that the smaller vehicle ended up about a block away. Not only that, but the door of the sedan somehow became dislodged and was “impaled” on the front bumper of the fire truck. Images from the scene show the door wrapped around the bumper, and this illustrates the tremendous physical forces that were at play.

The 39-year-old occupant was transported to a nearby hospital by first responders, but medical staff pronounced him dead shortly thereafter. The man’s father said he visited the hospital only to find out that his son was deceased. The father also insisted that his son would have never disregarded an emergency vehicle – and this raises questions about how the accident occurred.

Representatives from the fire department claim that when a truck’s sirens activate, the traffic lights on their path of travel automatically turn green. In other words, they argue that the victim would have had a red light at the moment of the crash. The question is whether the victim had any time to react, or whether the light quickly turned red before he had a chance to react.

Investigators also point out that the man might not have heard the sirens or noticed the flashing lights before the impact. According to CBS News, several firefighters were also hospitalized as a result of this crash.
