Teen Dies While Riding Dirt Bike in the Bronx

MotorcycleDown

The Bronx community is mourning the loss of an 18-year-old who was fatally struck while riding a dirt bike. The circumstances of the crash are still unclear, but police say that it occurred at an intersection known for fatal accidents. If you have lost a teen under similar circumstances, you may be wondering about your legal options. Can a Bronx motorcycle accident lawyer help you pursue compensation on your loved one’s behalf?

One Teen Killed After Riding on a Dirt Bike in the Bronx

In late February of 2025, the NYPD reported that an 18-year-old had lost his life after driving his dirt bike in the Bronx. A 14-year-old girl who was riding on the back of the bike was injured and hospitalized after the collision. Police say that the teen driver was approaching the intersection of Metcalf Avenue and East 172nd Street when he collided with a Honda Odyssey. Although the teenager was quickly transported to a nearby hospital by first responders, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the Honda was also injured in the collision, suggesting it must have happened at relatively high speeds. Normally, a dirt bike does not cause significant damage to a passenger vehicle. The collision may have also occurred at the driver’s side door – thereby affecting the motorist more directly.

Teen Was Planning to Join the Military

The boy’s mother shed further light on the incident, explaining that the teen had just finished high school. This victim reportedly wanted to join the military and was very close to doing so before the fatal accident. However, she also stated that she had no idea where the victim got the dirt bike from.

This Crash Is Similar to Another Accident in 2022

ABC News points out that this crash is quite similar to another incident that occurred back in 2022. In this crash, a young man on a bicycle was struck and killed by a car at almost exactly the same spot at the same intersection. After this crash, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene. The young man was working as a delivery driver at the time. Officials claimed to have solved the safety issue by installing a new traffic light – but clearly the intersection is still dangerous.

Key Takeaways:

  • This intersection has seen numerous crashes involving motorcycles and scooters
  • Parents must sue on behalf of their injured teens
  • A wrongful death claim can help families with funeral expenses and other damages
